How To Become a Rotary Exchange Student

Want to be an Exchange Student
Maybe you've met one or two of our exchange students in your high school, and you wonder if you could do what they are doing. Or perhaps you heard about our program from a teacher or guidance counsellor, or at a presentation by Rotary. However, the seed was planted, if you think you might be able to do this, then you owe it to yourself to follow up, learn more, and consider applying.

Rotary Youth Exchange programs are open to students ages 15-18 years*. To qualify, applicants should have demonstrated leadership in their community. Candidates should also possess qualities such as flexibility and a willingness to try new things that will enable them to fully experience life in another country and become excellent cultural ambassadors.

This program extends 12 months; from January-January.

All applicants must be sponsored by a District 9600 Rotary club and complete a written application and in-person interview. The fee for 2017-2018 is $8,800.

Rotary International strives to create and maintain a safe environment for all youth who participate in Rotary activities. To the best of their ability, Rotarians, Rotarians’ spouses and partners, and other volunteers must safeguard the children and young people they come into contact with and protect them from physical, sexual, and emotional abuse.

*To be able to participate in Rotary Youth Exchange, a student must be less than 18 years of age as of February 1 of the year of departure. If a student turns 18 before February 1, they may not be eligible to participate in this program.
